What makes BGBS a Christian School?

                Blue Grass is committed to giving each child a Christ-centered education taught from a Biblical worldview.  Everyday, students have a Bible study time with their teacher.  Weekly chapel brings students and teachers together for a time to worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Each teacher is a born-again believer who is dedicated in teaching children about Jesus Christ, as well as all academic disciplines.

What curriculum does BGBS use?

                Almost exclusively, we use the A Beka curriculum in grades K-12.  It is a phonics based building block curriculum that focuses on content mastery.  A Beka is a challenging curriculum that is grade/skill appropriate for the student.  We also use Bob Jones University curriculum in the areas of Bible, Spanish, French, and some Science classes.  Our middle/high school English and Math classes use some secular curriculum that is geared in strengthening grammar and math skills.

What is the class size in most classes?

                The largest class during the 2008-2009 school year is 18 students and the smallest class is 8 students. 

How can parents keep track of their child’s progress?

                Parents and teachers use email and phone correspondence.  Teachers will notify parents either by email, a letter, or a phone call if students are getting behind, not completing work, or making failing grades.  Parents may set up a conference with their child’s teacher, and teachers will notify parents if a conference needs to be scheduled.

Are all teachers certified at BGBS?

                All teachers, full time or part time, are certified either by the Kentucky Department of Education or the Association of Christian Schools International.

Does BGBS offer athletics?

                BGBS has a strong athletic department.  BGBS offers the following sports:  volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, baseball, and softball.  BGBS is part of the Kentucky Christian Athletic Association (KCAA).

Do elementary classes have special classes?

                We offer Art, Library, Music, P.E., and Computer (Grades 4-6) to all elementary students.  We hope to begin Spanish during the 2009-2010 school year for grades K-6.

Does BGBS have a lunch program?

                Most students at BGBS will bring their lunch to school.  We also offer a pre-paid lunch program where different vendors will bring in lunch.  At the end of each month, students will receive a form to fill out if they would like to have lunches brought in the following month.  Vendors include Chick-Fil-A, Culvers, Burger King, and Fazoli’s.  Pizza is served every Friday. 

Does my child have access to computers?

                Yes, all students in the high school have a computer class.  Grades 4-6 have computer class once a week.  Any students can use the computer lab before or after school with permission from the Technology Resource Teacher.

Is there a dress code?

                Yes, BGBS has a standard dress code.  The dress code policies are found in the BGBS Student and Parent Handbook.

What is the admissions process?

                Parents who are interested in BGBS are asked to call the school office to schedule an interview with the principal.  After the principal meets with the parents, parents are given a tour of the school and a packet of information about the school, including an application.  The principal will meet with middle or high school students who plan to attend BGBS.  Once the application and all forms are turned in to the office, the principal will notify acceptance.  New students will be given an entrance exam before entering BGBS.  This is done at the discretion of the principal and teacher(s).

Is there an application/registration fee?

                Yes, when turning in a student’s application, the registration fee is due at that time.  The school’s bookkeeper handles all financial information.

Can I apply for financial aid?

                BGBS offers financial aid through the bookkeeper.  The financial aid is based on the family’s income.  The bookkeeper will make contact with the family when the financial aid information comes back to the school from the agency.

What extra-curricular activities does the school offer?

                Middle and High school offers Student Council, NHS and NJHS, and Beta Club.  Elementary offers Library Club and Pep Club.

How prepared are high school students for college?

                High school students are offered a Kentucky standard diploma, as well as a College Preparatory diploma.  BGBS’s minimum graduation requirements for both of these diplomas exceed the Kentucky state requirements.  We offer high school courses that assist students in preparation for college.  Some of these courses are:  Honors English, Pre-Calculus, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, French, Advanced Computer Literacy, Honors Bible, and Honors History.

Does BGBS take part in standardized testing?

                BGBS administers the following standardized tests during the school year:

                                *CATS testing in April for Grades K-10

                                *PSAT testing in October for Juniors

                                *ASVAB testing in October for Juniors and Seniors

What times does school begin and end?

                School begins promptly at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 3:20 p.m.

Is BGBS accredited?

                Blue Grass Baptist is accredited by the Kentucky Department of Education through the Kentucky Non-Public School Commission.  We must re-certify every five years.

Does BGBS offer before and after school care?

                Before school care begins at 7:10 a.m.  After school care hours are from 3:30-5:45 p.m.  Please contact the front office for information about Before/After School Care.
